Disney Resort to be the main Draw for Ko Olina
Ko Olina Resort Oahu destination is often thought of as the most compelling holiday draw in all Hawaii. Many people believe it to be among the best ocean resorts anywhere. And now, one of the world's most well-known companies, is about to make its mark.
In November 2008, Walt Disney Co. broke ground on a large plot in Ko Olina, Oahu. The long-awaited Disney Resort & Spa, Ko Olina will be located between the Marriott and the Ko Olina Beach Villas. This area is known for huge area the Ewa Plains. Ewa Plains landscape will be remade into the lush oasis with a huge artificial volcano, wind river, blue lagoon and vast lawns.
Slated to open in 2011, will include 350 resort hotel rooms, 480 timeshare units, 18,000 square-foot spa and 8000-square-foot conference center. Also in the works are thematic Hawaiian cuisine restaurants, Disney kids club, wedding and an extensive network of water activities and functions. Visitors will still be treated to the water rides down the slopes of the volcano.
Ko Olina area is steeped in Hawaiian culture and customs. Disney Company has on several occasions, reaffirmed its commitment to local issues and sensitivity to Hawaiian ways.
Disney has brought attention to his plans for educational programs with respect to the Hawaiian culture, music, dance, arts and crafts. In addition, the architectural design and decor include Hawaiian motifs and materials such as lava stone, thatch and local forests. The "central building with an entrance lobby, called Hale Aloha" will be designed in the spirit of the Hawaiian Canoe House.
