What does Ted Kooser's Poem "Applesauce" literally? What does it mean? Plzz HELP?

"Applesauce" I loved how the blue sky pan lid that lifted and puffed, then settled on thin hotpad of steam, and the way her kitchen filled with the warm, wet breath of apples, if all apples were talking at once, though she has been cold and sour of chores in the orchard, and tried to shoulder near the fire. Pinched her dentures with wrinkled lips, she had the bright copper coins and jingle of the lids and stack thoughtfully counted the red rubber rings, then each pot to hold, to see if it was clean, looked through a window at her backyard in Iowa. And with every third or fourth pot she wiped steam from her glasses, using the edge of her apron, printed with little red sailboats that dipped leaf green banners with broken clouds in pale apple sauce with cinammon and clove scented cloud, the only vessels sail for at least two thousand miles.

Kooser is painting a picture with words. You could take a pen or pencil and illustrate women, canning jars, steam, the view from the window. Kooser uses his five senses to take me right in the kitchen. I can almost taste the warm apples and he is sharing his feelings about his grandmother (or a Another old woman who feeds him).
