What type of kayak should I buy?
Me and friend have a chance to buy 2 Old Town Rush Kayaks in virtually new condition with a roof rack, wall mounted, vests and paddles for $ 700 ... Unfortunately, I do not know anything about the prices of these things and do not want to pay too used for many things, even if slightly used ... I looked at the bass pro.com ... Old Town kayak, they offer the cheap not the same as the one looking to buy ...
Firstly, have you tried to paddling the boat? You need to know if you save it. From what I read on the internet, if you have a 6 'tall or more, may not be comfortable in it - legroom is a problem. Secondly, if you weigh well over 200 pounds, you may be too hard for it. Too much weight in the boat, and will run in the bottom water - and this may affect the performance of the ship in several ways - it can make it move more, may be tippier, than should be, and you can have problems with tracking. Finally, what can you do with a kayak? You'll want to just circulate local lakes and fish? Or are you, who want to paddle and cover long distances and get exercise? To paddle lazy river / narrow inlets / whitewater? All these factors should play into the boat for a decision - Before you settle on the ship just because it's cheap. Short wide boat like Rush are great for floating, narrow calm water, etc. But if you are looking for is large lakes, ocean or large cove, I'd keep looking. Read up on different types of hulls, which are available are suitable for you're on the water often.
