Kayak Paddling Technique

What is the design difference between high and low angle kayak paddles?

I use more of a high angle, at least in part due to the width of my boat, but I was wondering if there was a noticeable difference in the paddle design, if I have a list of low angle high angle with my technique, would it matter?

There are two main differences between the designs for different types of paddle strokes. One difference is that a high angle paddle usually shorter. Because the high angle of impact is more vertical and closer to the boat, the shorter paddle is fully engaged in the water. If the paddle is too long for your style of paddling, you'll definitely notice it, your high hand will be too high (above eye level) or else the blade in the water will find its way under water. However, the paddle feel unmanageable. The other difference is the shape of the blade. Designed for a higher angle, the stroke tend to be more symmetrical. Take a canoe paddle - it is completely symmetrical and is designed for a completely vertical movement. During a stroke, the water pushes on each half of The same magazine (think of the paddle shaft dividing the face of the blade in two). However, if the stroke is less than vertical, this is not the case, and the paddle will want to run. This is why most kayak paddle blades are asymmetrical, with the top edge of the blade is longer than the bottom. The longer the top edge relative to the ground, the more the paddle designed for low angle stroke. If you find that the paddle blade tend to flutter or try to run if you take a stroke, then your work might be too high angle of the paddle design.
