The best time of year and where you can see Alaska?
We are planning a trip to Alaska in '08. We are talking about August or September I want to see Alaska when it's cold, not warm. Even my dad was watching it, and he was told, Homer is the place to go. We want to make a halibut fishing, but hiking, kayaking, and see wildlife and glaciers, etc. What are your ideas / experience and we are on the right track?
First, go for August. September can be quite cold here to put it this way: we have Snow first week in October. Moreover, August is a good fishing season. Homer is right, but really everything you can do mentioned somewhere a little more exciting to see the Kenai and Seward. Kenai has a Whitewater rafting, kayaking, great fishing, a lot of Kenai Fjord cruise relatively cheap, that you get to the glacier or nearby islands with tons of wild animals. If want to go in the opposite direction, head to Denali National Park. Denali is best for camping, wildlife, tourism, and general scenery, not so much on the fishing though. Anyway, do not get it caught in the outdoor things that you forget to look around. Anchorage is quite a nice place to visit, and quite a few historical museums and old architecture. Basically just the way you can. Sometimes, living in Alaska is like living in three states at once, there's so much work that it is impossible to choose one song.
