kayak excursions
I mean sea kayak trip to Maine, any suggestions?
I am in school and to go with other boys at my age, my equipment and boats, looking ideas for trips. I mean the last week of May / first week of June for ten days max. I want to stay under twenty miles per day and a cool place to stay a few days into a short day trips it would be plus. I have tents, four to five sites in sea kayaks, stoves, etc. etc. I have sp, e preparations for good interior dayhike if you have any suggestions for one. I want to be camping on islands and remote places, not beach hopping from city to city
Hi, I'm more kayaker from the Passamaquoddy Bay bordering Maine and there are several factors to consider sea kayaking in this area. For one thing, in the State of Maine, is quite a big state with lots of coastline, and many empty coast. Unfortunately, much of the seemingly "empty" islands are owned and usually taboo, if you can get a permit. Secondly, it's damn cold water, so I'm not sure, May / June is the best time of year when you are ready for a cold night temps and have wetsuits or drysuits. August is better and less likely to fog, too. And finally, be noted that due to the terrain, there are some wicked tidal currents in some of the coves and bays. I would like to strongly recommend going with either a guide or someone who knows the area. Try "paddling.net" for some further information about the area or try to do WebSearch Outfitters in different parts state. Some Outfitters, may be useful for athletes who have their own facilities. One outfitter I found it a great "seascapeskayaktours.com, based in Deer Island, NB, I toured with him, but also picked up some great local Information and tips for trips myself later. Then there is the website: www.maineseakayakguides.com. Maine tourisn site also lists all Outfitters. Finally, the Maine Island Trail Association - you can link to them from maineseakayakguides website - which provides a large amount of information. Good Luck, it's beautiful coast, wherever you are!
