What is difference between a rib and a Honda Inflatable?

Hello ... I am in the early stages of learning about the different types of water suitable for vessels 2 miles crossing a strip of water at all times of the year and in all weather conditions (the River Clyde, on the west coast of Scotland) ... I understand that RIBs are suitable for such a purpose but they seem expensive. I have therefore determined that a possible alternative is an inflatable boat (this is the same as a RIB?). The question is .... what is the difference between a rib and an Inflatable Boat? I look at the following (Model: T25-AE1) Honda Aluminum Decked Inflatable (whose details can be found on page 3 of the following pdf file available on the Honda website ... http://www.honda.co.uk/brochure/download/marineInflatables.pdf Any advice / comments would be welcomed. Thanks Jamie course RIB is fancier (steering wheel, etc. ..) and heavier unfortunately, is an inflatable but no less safe and suitable for water?

Well the difference between a RIB and a inflateable only the hull structure, means the RIB RIGID BOOT INFLATEABLE, which means that a one piece hull (bottom) & inflateable pipes to either side, while a inlateable vessel can be deflated and stowed in the trunk of your car, with the floor in either many sections (aluminum) or wood (marine ply) in general 3 or 4 sections, depending on the size of your vessel, each inflateable (of reasonable size) would have exceeded 2 miles of the lake you mention making you a decent outboard & Always a reserve, & Much fuel, and life vests and flares, and not to forget your phone either, but always remember weather can change at a moments notice and without warning, so beware sailor! with caution and finally, always check the weather forecast before you embark on your trip!
