Investing in an inflatable boat can be a substantial contribution of money, and the concept of inflatable boat design can guarantee you the right boat for your investment. There are several styles of inflatable boats available, so do your homework to figure out which one is right for your needs. To help, we together have an introduction to inflatable boats to help you limit your choices.
Tenders and Dinghies
This is the perfect inflatable boat design for most beginners. It is also a practical design for anyone looking for a general purpose boat that offers security and stability for a reasonable price.
Size is not what determines that an inflatable boat is a yacht tender, because you can them as small as something less than two meters and as large as 20 feet. This category contains four styles of yacht tender. Each has a different type of soil (referred to as the trunk by experienced boaters).
The smallest yacht tenders generally have a hull design made of a layer of dust and wood or rigid plastic strips running across the width of the boat. The typical beam width is 4 cm. You'll probably find an inflatable boat under eight meters long with a slatted floor. These boats are fine to paddle around in, but they are not high performance and they are not good for drawing things and not work with an engine.
Inflatable boats with a keel
A V-hull inflatable boat has an inflation tube running the length thereof, or in some cases a keel below the floor plate. Inflating the inflatable tube gives your boat a V-shaped to keep the bow of the boat. The keel cuts through the water better than a flat bottom boat and improves the handling of the boat. You also find that V-hull inflatable boats are designed more buoyancy, which is nice if you implement an important piece of gear.
High Performance Inflatables
If you are looking for high performance and ability to achieve high speeds, you must step to the next level of inflatable boat design. Inflatable boats with high performance hulls handle well and can really be pushed for speed. Be careful, however, when you start using an inflatable boat with a high performance hull. The ease of handling and superior performance can you cocky. Unless you really an experienced skipper, the design can quickly overwhelm you.
High performance hulls are routinely used for racing inflatable boats, rescue boats and even water skiing. The hull of a high performance boat usually has a complex system of inflatable tubes to give the boat added lift, especially at high speeds.
RIB's (Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats)
RIB's are exactly what they sound. These have a rigid hull inflatable boats, usually made of some form of fiberglass attached to an inflatable collar. You get the V-hull shape at the bow that gradually flattens out to stern. These are probably the most popular inflatable boat designs for family or occasional users. It combines the stability and buoyancy of an inflatable boat with improved handling of a fiberglass hull.
You also get a lot of style options with a RIB. Some of the larger models come with built in seating, storage, and easy to use consoles which they compare with a standard fiberglass boat. These designs are comfortable and versatile, making them the ideal all-purpose boat for fishing, water skiing or just relax on the water. There are also a number of military RIBs and rescue applications due to their safety and maneuverability.
Other Inflatable Boat Designs
There are also designs in essentially are copies of the more traditional, very specific boats. You can, for example, get an inflatable kayak or an inflatable canoe. These are excellent options if you enjoy kayaking or canoeing but do not have many off-season storage for your boat. This inflatable boat designs also make it easier to pack and go camping along a river or lake, without dragging a full-sized boat with you the whole trip. When you're ready to go kayaking or canoeing, just pumping and you're ready to go.
Inflatable pontoon boats are mainly used for fishing and other relatively still water. These two inflatable tubes away from each with a seat or seats are distributed between and slightly above them. Most inflatable pontoon boat has only one or two people. Inflatable pontoon boats are excellent for fishing, because they remain stable, even if your weight more on one side. You can stowing your gear in the soil between the two pontoons, and the small size and maneuverability of the inflatable boat design makes it easy to reach areas that are not fishing boats can penetrate.
