It seems that we have some common interests. My first experience was in commercial fishing in SE AK salmon purse seiner from Anacortes WN. I fish for herring in Kashakes (sp?) One place, but mainly fished from the Columbia River to northern Mexico salmon and tuna. San Francisco Bay in January lucritive fish (herring roe), for a while, but that's all history now. I sailed small boats up and down the coast for a few years before buying my merchant ship. Sailing is still one of my passions. My canoe, Navaro Loon, has its own sailing rig, which gives me much pleasure, in temperate somehow. My wild days of water, storm at sea, a cat four rapids, etc., are history. Gentle drift, such as Green River Utah is my speed now. Where is SW AK?
Southwest Alaska is the area between the West and the Persian Gulf Bering Sea. I worked in the cord troll, diving, sweat and fisheries management, but no net fishing. It's great here, but not interest me much, except perhaps for set-netting. And it certainly is too much work for little money, not anymore. I'm not comfortable such public communications forum - But I think your shipping experience. Sounds like you have a wonderful adventure at any rate - and your canoe seems like a very pleasant way to travel. Fair seas!
