Miracle glue and wound closure!

Have you ever heard of gluing cut together? When I first heard about so I was a little shocked. I was sold a product called Miracle Glue at trade fairs. I had people say all sorts of outrageous stories the origin of cyanoacrylates (glue) - Miracle Glue is in the same category. The prevailing story was that the glue was invented during the Vietnam for soldiers. It was more effective than a bandage to seal cut or wound closure. I quite thoroughly investigated and found although these types of adhesives were used in Vietnam and later for stitching wounds, "super glue" was "discovered" much earlier.

Cyanoacrylates have crashed into a pair of master-Eastman Kodak in 1940, then again in 50 years. These gentlemen are experimenting on rifles and telescopes for cyanoacrylate was one of their mistakes. First cyanoacrylates that were formed were ethanol and methanol. In 1970, n-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate then 2-octyl cyanoacrylate was developed, the second approved by FDA and marketed as products such as Traumaseal and Dermabond. Butyl and octyl being less irritating to the skin. Older of them will do the job just is not so comfortable. I had many people tell me that they were used by all types of cyanoacrylates manner.

Now, even though my family is loaded with the doctors that I was not one. If I can not advise the use of an adhesive such things, I can tell interesting stories that were sent to me. There is one 3-4 years ago:

"Dear Gentlemen:

I bought a small bottle of Miracle Glue the gun show in Portland in June thinking from the demonstration that it would be good thing that when I was out hunting and fishing for all those quick fixes that always seem to come. Well, this is over, that your small adhesive save his path. I would say that life, but it would be too dramatic. I was on a solo fly-in canoe trip to Quetico Ontario Forest in Northern Minnesota in the far north boundary Waters Canoe Area. I was told many times I'm crazy for flying to hundreds of kilometers away from itself and not where and no body, but sometimes I just feel alone with nature, to my world back in perspective. I grew up in these places, so I feel quite confident of their abilities, and in addition, fishing is great and easy to frighten bears.

I have four days to 10 days trip and spin casting a reed bed for trophy Northerns [Northern Pike]. My magic gets hit like a freight train and I finally fight the monster in my canoe. Trying to snap a quick picture of the distance to record the moment and release of trophy fish, he jerks from my hand, holding his gills and starts going nuts in the bottom of the canoe.

Things happen very quickly. I jerk pliers and managed to get out and attracts as I am trying to settle the fish to release it I'm going to make me grab my place and grab the hand. I can keep him gills and twist my hand (not fun, simple and pretty, but fortunately I was in heavy leather gloves), but now everything is tangled fish in my hard line and all I want is a rookie out of my canoe. I yank my fillet knife and go to reduce the back of the line to throw him overboard.

As I go to the cut line fish thrashes out of my hand landing on the other hand makes my fillet knife in my left thigh and I can say that I was to some extent, reduce bad now. Screw fish, I can pop the head boat oar handle and go back to camp. (I ate my fill and left a huge head of a broken pine limbs.)

When I take the top and there is a nice 7 "long, deep cut right down on my thigh. Fortunately I had my filet knife razor sharp, so clean straight cut. I'm not relishing the thought consuming my week whiskey stocks, electric line and hand sew the leg work. I remember reading something about the use of medical adhesives and it is worth try hack job than their own sewing.

I conclude Miracle Glue I bought, cleaned the wound, dab it as dry as I then slowly closed the wound with glue, some I use hemostats to remove hooks. It worked nicely and decided wound together. I wiped a bit and ended up bleeding stopped. I waited, and then added a thin line seal when done for extra hold. After I covered the gauze and still others related to travel. The wounds did not get very infected and the glue came I just put some antiseptic cream on it for several days and even that was gone.

Great job with the glue, send me more. Regards,
Jeff J. "

Cyanoacrylate can be used on paper, immediate closure of the wound. I also had several people telling me that have used successfully when they get very dry skin and skin at the ends of their fingers division. Put the decline, and until disappears after a few days, the division has closed.

Canoe country has a strong hold on the imagination. The conifers and rock-ribbed lakes of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and neighboring Quetico Provincial Park are still a remote wilderness where Cree, Ojibwe, and voyageurs once traveled in birch-bark canoes, where lynx, moose, and gray wolves still roam. It is a place and a dream, a source of enjoyment for the hundreds of thousands wh...
