Sitting in the kayak vs kayak sit on top?
Looking for a Kayak, but I'm not sure which model to go s. New to kayaking and looking for a tandem kayak to be used in lakes, rivers and possibly non-coastal, recreational use and fisheries Not sure which way go. Solo will not work. Must be either a Tandem Canoe Kayak or go with (not a big fan of canoe) Need for multi-family, but preferably fish if possible. Go with recreational model, but the equipment if possible - and not just add a rod holder. Want to still look cool. Will use on the lakes - small rivers and possibly off the coast of South Carolina. Any help is greatly appreciated. Budget conscious so please do not .. Hobie responses. I'd like one if I could. I can not. Has anyone heard Crescent Kayaks? If Yes, I'm looking for a real evaluation. I actually rented Splash 1, while on vacation in the Caribbean mangrove tour mouth - not bad (although the slower and less manueverable than any of my closed cockpit sea kayaks, of course.) seat and paddling positions were reasonably comfortable. I would like to use in cold water, or heavy cutting, though. And it was tedious and slow to paddle, especially when the wind picked up. But I imagine it would be OK for sitting and fishing in calm, warm water. Weight Splash 2 is quite good for tandem boat and it is quite compact. You can stay under 500 # with a capacity of 3 family? In comparison to this guy four models: http://www.shortypen.com/boats/kayak/why/index.htm seems not a bad choice for you and the price is certainly decent (depending on what you nail on the trucks - I always recommend that people buy new Kayaks are trying to through a local outfitter rather than on-line - most shops can match online prices sales tax will be less than the fares and you'll usually get a discount on buying a package of accessories, such as PFD a paddle.) What a bright and high sits as a boat, be sure to buy a paddle at least 240 cm, possibly more, if you high. And get a good paddle, not one of those cheap metal boat anchor shaft. Go to the fiberglass shaft and slim knife - much simpler, faster and less tiring paddling pool - money well spent. And with the boat, just make sure we do not store it flat on its bottom (lean to the side or hang carrier) to avoid the dreaded "oil" hole in the hull. Regarding the 'looking cool "- I admit that I am biased, and these" fishing boats "never look cool to me (parallel with mini-cars in the car "coolness" category.) are a step up from an inflatable pool to swim, but it's really hard to consider their real kayak (low, fast, sleek boats Eskimos wore as an extension of their bodies to hunt marine mammals in polar waters). Maybe if they painted and plastic-decorated, so it looks like an alligator or a shark - then it would be funky cool.
