How to build a makeshift canoe from non-traditional materials, which may have 4 people and go really fast?

There is a competition our university students to build a racing boat with non-traditional board materials (no pre-made parts, oars, etc.). The price is $ 800! We have only 2 days, but are more than willing to get down to business. We thought that some kind of canoe design would be most effective. We must also build a paddle. We have 4 paddles for each application individually or set of oars 2 everyone? Please help.
